Iota writing with pen Kalliope's Review
"This is one book I cannot read without a full box of tissues nearby. Don't even think of starting it without at least a handkerchief. Thankfully the tears result in a smile at the happy endings of each chapter and I guarantee that you will fall in love with this brave-hearted canine. I wouldn't be surprised if everyone who listens to this story Googles "collies" and seriously considers adding a new pet to the family."   ~ Kalliope
Iota reading Short Book Summary
Lad: a Dog was penned in 1919 by Albert Payson Terhune, American author, dog breeder, and journalist. The public knows him best for his novels relating the adventures of his beloved collies and as a breeder of collies at his Sunnybank Kennels. Consisting of twelve chapters, this book elaborates on that many different stories of Lad,  a magnificent collie of near-human wisdom and gallantry.

"Lady was as much a part of Lad's everyday happiness as sunshine itself. She seemed to him quite as perfect, and as gloriously indispensable. He could no more have imagined a Lady-less life than a sunless life. It had never occurred to him to suspect that Lady could be any less devoted than he -- until Knave came to The Place. Lad was an eighty-pound collie, thoroughbred in spirit as well as blood. He had the benign dignity that was a heritage from endless generations of high-strain ancestors. He had, too, the gay courage of a d'Artagnan, and an uncanny wisdom. Also -- who could doubt it, after a look into his mournful brown eyes -- he had a Soul."
