Wow, it's been a long time...

November 18, 2011

Kalliope has taken a breather, waiting for the economy to improve. Unfortunately, it hasn't. So in the meantime, we will let you know what we are doing, discuss books we are reading, and share hopes we are keeping alive. For one thing, the grandsons have grown quite a bit and are expecting a sister next month. Growth is always a blessing.

Memorial Park DowntownSeptember 6, 2009

We were intending to go to the "Balloon Glow" (which was canceled due to weather) but instead we found this.

Josh is three =)September 4, 2009

Today is my grandson Joshua's third birthday. Of course Grandma gave him a camera. Now he can take these pictures for our blog and show all of you what we're up to these days. Well, he might need a little practice but I'll be sure to share some of his better shots.

Isn't she beautiful?!September 4, 2009

This morning on our walk we must have seen at least 30 of these gorgeous creatures. None of them hurried out of the way or darted for cover, but merely looked at us with their bright, inquisitive eyes, and then they went on eating their breakfast. We've noticed that the babies are getting much bigger and losing their spots. Still cute as buttons, though...

We're on YouTube!August 30, 2009

A good friend, Roger Greene, has volunteered his time and skills to create a "video version" of the first chapter of Seven Little Australians to be posted on YouTube. Many thanks Roger!  It looks fantastic!

Steve Starr Photo ShootAugust 29, 2009

Last Friday provided us with an opportunity to work with photojournalist Steve Starr (http://www.stevestarrphotographer.com/prcorporate/index.html) -- a gentleman and an awe-inspiring professional -- to capture some publicity images for various media needs. His attention to detail, his eye for lighting, and his sense of humor all made for a morning to remember. Above are just two of his shots. Isn't he a master?! We think so. =)

The Tale of Henrietta HenAugust 20, 2009

Here is Carrie's sketch for the cover of the book third book in the series of four by Arthur Scott Bailey. We love her way with animals and she makes this Mama Hen look oh, so appealing! It makes me (fondly) remember the time when my five year old son suddenly grasped the concept during a meal and uttered, "you mean, chicken is made out of...gasp!"

The Tale of Miss Kitty CatAugust 20, 2009

Cats are a particular favorite of ours right now since we find ourselves in a dogless time of life, and our one old-faithful pet is a sixteen year old cat, Ariel. Although not as spry and energetic as this charmer drawn by Carrie Anne Bradshaw (to illustrate the second in a series of animal books) we love her dearly and think all cats possess that winsome "pet me if you want but I will NOT beg" attitude. Such class! =)

The Audies 2010August 17, 2009

Talk about glitz and glamour! This contest is to the audio book world what the Oscars are to the movies. We've entered our first book, Seven Little Australians in four categories: classic, solo narration (male), audio drama, and package design. Wish us luck and patience. No decisions of any kind will happen until the finalists are announced in March 2010 and the winners gala is in May 2010.

WE MagazineAugust 17, 2009

I don't know if you saw it, but Kalliope is listed as a finalist! While we have no idea if we will be selected for a cover story or not, we are grateful nonetheless for this opportunity to show off our company and let the world know what we are doing. So in another month or so, we'll post the results of this competition. This really is a time to say, "Stay tuned..."

Birthday season August 13, 2009

August is one of our two big birthday months (the other being April) and we have had more than our share of birthday cakes to enjoy. Still, birthdays are a perfect time to mark growth gained, maturity mastered, and maybe even wisdom acquired?! We hope we have gotten wiser this past year and for everybody reading this who also has an August birthday, we wish you a wonderful new year filled with great opportunities.

Newest Braille DesignAugust 13, 2009

Don't you wish you could feel what we've done and not just see it? Pretty soon you can! All of our disks (after the initial SLA printing) will contain their book title and disk number in Braille so that even our vision-impared audience will have no trouble knowing what disk they are holding in their hands. Pretty cool, huh?

Parnassus on WheelsAugust 11, 2009

Another book cover preliminary for you to enjoy. While there may need to be a few adjustments before this cover is finalized, we love what Andrew Marston has done to hint at the fascinating nature of this book. A prequel to another of our offerings, The Haunted Bookshop by Christopher Morley, this gem, Parnasses on Wheels introduces the reader to the main characters and sets the stage for its sequel, an intriguing "who done it." Watch for both of these stories to come and tickle your mysterious side.
